Okay moving this to a new post so the original thread doesn’t get to clogged but if you are talking about the sunset limited line, then yeah I can explain.
Okay so we had a line running from New Orleans to Tallahassee once a week at night, but the line was destroyed but hurricane Katrina in ‘03.
The Rail we want to use, to get it running again is owned by CSX, Norfolk Southern, and the port Authority of Mobile.
They claim running a daily daytime passenger train along the stretch between New Orleans and Mobile would negatively impact freight movements
So since I have no real president for forcing the rails to work with me despite a clause in the establishment of amtrak including a stipulation that we can force the operators to work with us
Due to a lack of operating procedures, this dispute turned into a 5 year long court battle where we had to do 5 environmental surveys to prove it wouldn’t affect freight negatively.
Now we are beginning to build stations for the track in Mississippi.
All of that could have been avoided if Amtrak was funded
