Okay @zonebooth I am moving this over to a different thread so to not derail (ha) the original post too much
But isn’t Toldedo in Ohio not South Carolina. Also everywhere in the US that isn’t in the northeast or Chicago is a rail desert due to the automobile lobby, I am so sorry.
Good God how many places have Union Stations turned into museums. And yeah, it sucks. This was in regards to the 3C+D, btw.
Ah okay, well if you want some good news about the line, "Governor" Dewine said that ohio is "strongly considering" sending an application so the 3C+D line is a definitely maybe, possibly going to somewhat have a chance at happening. Also another fun fact is that in 2012 the federal government was going to give 400 million dollars to build the line and not charged ohio a cent but the Governor fucking gave the money back because we are run by idiots
I saw that when I looked up what the 3CD was! "Worried about long term costs". "Needs to be faster than the highway". Jobs program. Economy boost. Money directly back into their pockets. What the hell.
Competitiveness with the highway is not needed with trains because many people are willing to trade speed for convenience and not having to drive or deal with traffic. In reality a train can be 30 minutes to an hour slower than a highway and a large chunk of people will still prefer it over cars
