Amtrak, United States vs Fenelon Place Elevator, Dubuque, Iowa, United States
Amtrak: I <3 TRAINS
Fenelon Place Elevator: it's the shortest and steepest railway in the world, angling up at 41 degrees, a vertical elevation of 189 feet (57.6m), a line length of 296 feet (90m), and a track gauge of just 3 feet. it was originally built in 1882 for private use, but it was opened to the public in 1884, and it's still a public commuter rail today. there are 2 tracks, so 2 cable cars running at the same time, one up and one down, interchanging. it's a funny little track!!
