Maybe this is just me but how is Chicago in any way an urbanist city? It has the exact same problem as pretty much every city in north america that isn't New York, Montreal, or Toronto, which is that it just deteriorates into endless suburbs after getting like 10 feet outside of the designated "downtown" district

METRA and the L, much larger downtown, and has actual mixed use within many of the inner suburbs.
The vast, vast majority of what's in that picture are suburbs! A lot of that is single family detached homes spread over a large area: AKA suburbs. Now that said Chicago does a significantly better job than most US cities in that the houses are still pretty densely packed and there's still commercial space for restaurants/corner stores pretty regularly. It's not ideal but it is pretty fuckin great by north American standards.
Yeah I checked and you are right, I guess what I was getting at is that these aren’t modern America style suburbs and still have a lot of neighborhood connections and mixed use developments
