East-West Route anon here, sorry for the confusion, I was saying there should be another EW route between the two. Preferably Chicago to Portland, but there are probably other options as well options. It’s wild that South Dakota, Montana, and most of Idaho have no Amtrak service, you know? Speed improvements would also help a ton

Oh yeah that is direly needed, the plus side is the Pioneer between Salt Lake City and Boise is likely to fill in one of those gaps. But yeah Long distance routes require an act of congress to be created and there aren’t many major cities in South Dakota to Anchor these things so the full connection feels unlikely
Anon, great news, I just noticed that the Empire Builder has a spur to Portland, meaning that a Chicago-Portland Route does exist
