@amtrak-official this is partially a rhetorical question but why do I have to suffer if living in a train less south. This absolutely sucks to try to go up or down via train. The only thing I can do is go up to the east coast or all the way to west Coast. But living in Birmingham all my friends are in Nashville and Huntsville. Do both of them just don't have any rail yards or does freight just completely stomp out Amtrak from some of these areas?
The reason is the same as it is for a lot of things. Southern Republican led state governments see the state subsidies needed to run an amtrak line as needless govenment spending and that has stopped rail from developing in the south. This is gradually changing with the Planned Cresent Extension and Sunset Limited Extension. T
I'm sorry but "does Nashville not have any rail yards" just took me out. Because
Like no shade to OP, you're not from there & also it's been out of commission for a long while, so it's not something that would be common knowledge. It's also possible that the old L&N yards have been disassembled to make room for other things, although my gut tells me they likely still exist under control of one of the freight companies.
They were bought out by the Seaboard System which became the Devil: CSX, and I would kill to have control over their old Main line between Cincinnati, Louisville, Nashville, Birmingham, and Mobile
