I'm taking the train from the Twin Cities to Denver in a month, and I know I'll have to switch lines in Chicago. Would it be better to get a spot in the sleeper car for the first leg of the trip (St.P to Chi), or for the second leg (Chi to Den)?
Also, I think the dining car on an Amtrack train is an undervalued way to meet new people. It's one of the things I'm looking forward to the most. All restraunts should make you sit with complete strangers for a meal.
If you want to get a sleeper do Zephyr since that is the over night train while the Empire Builder from the Twin Cities is all during the day.
