I do wish they would factor the Chicago-Indianapolis-Louisville route into their study since it would work really well with that Louisville-Nashville and Nashville-Atlanta route
Why can't Cincinnati ever have nice things? Why aren't we linked up to Louisville (besides the. The HILLS)?
The reason is in fact, those hills and Kentucky doesn't want to fund any routes
After years of driving the Knoxville to Nashville section on I-40, I kept wondering why there was no Nashville to Ashville route, other than nobody wanted to pay for it. Admittedly, that's probably the main reason.
Considering I started asking about it when the national news finally started covering the issues the Smoky Mountian area was having with acid rain, it's been a while.
Would have been nice to have rail tourism in the state sooner, but this is a good start.
The big issue with doing a Asheville-Nashville route is the fact that to build tracks you would have to either take an incredibly out of the way route going through either Virginia or Chattanooga or take the extreme option and Bulldoze right across Great Smokey Mountains National Park
I know the hills suck, but damn would the Indy-Cincy-Louisville triangle get so much use. I hate I-74, not the least bc I don’t think the amtrak employees would attempt to hate crime me lol.
I am lazy and won’t look for the actual cartrip volume between the cities, but I can safely assume if ever built a Louisville-Cincinnati line would be one of the most used in the entire midwest
