Pennsylvania, Michigan and Massachusetts have all announced they are doing work on passenger rail even before the FRA announcers funding later this year
Firstly the Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority has begun looking into where to put a station in Reading for a Reading To Philadelphia rail line and creating a TOD policy for the area around the station while they wait for the FRA funds to arrive for the restoration of the line
Massachusetts has announced funding to raise the track speeds and add new sidings on the rail line between Worcester and Springfield up to speeds of 80 mph cutting trip times down to 2 hours
The Michigan state Government has allotted 20 million to high speed rail to be given out in Grants to local governments, additionally the state legislature has mentioned it could be used to improve existing passenger rail lines by increasing frequency or renovating the Ann Arbor station
Oh fuck I missed this for a minutes but, Metra is restoring service to Rockford by 2027. The line will have 2 daily trains running at 79 mph with stops in Belvedere, Huntly, and Elgin. The trip time will be 95 minutes between Rockford and Chicago
