Anyways, the constant longing for the cities of the past will do nothing to improve our current cities. We can never go back to the past all we can do is work to improve whatever exists now.

Urbanism is not a desperation to go back to a better nonexistent past, that is called being a reactionary and is the antithesis to the goals of Urbanism and leftist movements in general

If you make your movement based around going to the past, you are encouraging facism. The point of Urbanism is to improve the existing world for a better future. We can look at the past for ideas, but that longing for the past that is seemingly everpresent is not actually helping anyone.

a tumblr comment from @crazy-pages which reads "... you are aware that there was a time period between city sewage as a development, and the invention of the car, right? Like, I'm not saying we get better cities by just replicating the past (heck, transit tech is a lot better these days, we can do *much* better than they did), but this is a pretty silly take."ALT

My point is not that we can’t look back to the past for ideas or proof of the possibility for improvement, ee can and we should do thay. my point is that we put to much emphasis on romanticizing the past over actual action to improve our cities and that blind nostalgia is not the basis of a good movement. My point is that we in my opinion should focus on what could be not what was.
