So I have some thoughts about NYC, it has the potential to be a radically better more connected and urbanist city in about 10 years in the right moves are made by the city government and funding for projects remain constant.
Firstly, the most important subway project in New York is about to enter environmental review with the creation of the IBX in Queens and Brooklyn meaning the outer boroughs will become so much more connected with eachother. And because of the Congestion Pricing in Lower Manhattan which should be introduced if New Jersey drops its lawsuit, the Subway will finally have consistent funding to subsidize expansion.
Then there is the beginning of a radical redesign in the streets of Manhatten which are outlined in the New New York Plan which outlines making large increases in space for pedestrians and in cases out right removing cars from streets. These plans do focus a large amount on Manhattan which is a shame, but particularly the improvements to Broadway look extremely Exciting. However this is a government project in New York so this plan could take an extremely long time to complete and there is a significant lack of plans for the outer boroughs
Now while these CG Renders do look really nice, we need to remember that these are still just ideas and plans till shovels hit the ground, and it is entirely possible that the plazas and complete streets promised are never actually built.
