My issue isn't with the calling of Amtrak a monopoly, it's the constant dick riding of Brightline that comes from news outlets
The article is interesting, and it does actually highlight the expansion of passenger rail in both governmental projects and ugh private forms, but it fails to look at the flaws of private rail and has a really weird framing by treating Amtrak as a monopoly
Wait a moment, The State of Oregon required that Eugene be included in any Cascadia High-speed Rail project, Washington Post, why did you forget that?
Edit: my dumb ass didn't see the Proposals part of the map title and turns out even connecting OKC to Kansas doesn't get me to SLC without a bus break, sigh.
Also the "new service" isn't accurate, the Heartland Flyer extension to Kansas hasn't even been approved yet from what I can tell
None of the dark blue routes outside the gulf coast, the line to Duluth and Front Range Rail have been approved by any entities actually, I was just assuming they were saying these are the most likely to get approval
