New Urbanist suburbs aren't actually urbanist because they have no transit connections, and are unaffordable to the masses
Genuinely Celebration Florida and Carmel Indiana kinda suck
Like they are all car dependent, yes there are some shops near by, but behind each lot in the shopping centers is Like 400 parking spaces which defeats the whole point.
The second picture is of Norton Commons in Louisville because there is literally no urbanism to call halfassed in Carmel beyond the roundabouts
There's a quote I think about whenever urbanism in North America comes up:
Correct we need to both adopt 15 minute city principals in the design of our cities and work to insure that people are not forced out of their homes by these changes
Accessible cities, affordable housing, and fuckable trains should be considered core tenets of successful urban planning and design
Trains should not actually be fuckable
The reason these areas are so expensive is because there’s massive demand for living in a place designed for people, not cars, and the way to fix it (without overthrowing capitalism which we should be doing) is building as much as possible so it isn’t such a hot commodity. Also we should be gay fucking the trains yeah. We’ll have yaoi and yuri trains
I agree, we should build more livable urban environments so that we can actually have our cities be both livable and affordable but can you shut the hell up about fucking the trains
