Yards in and of themselves aren't actually that bad, they can help to provide urban greenspace, it's just lawns that really suck, well lawns and the absurd size of the American Yard
When there are houses with half an acre of yard space, and exclusively Turf grass for plant life you sort of just have to start wondering if every house in the suburbs has a secret herd of cattle
Anyways if you have a yard, you can use it for so much, build some raised planting beds and grow vegetables, build a bat roost, plant fruit trees, summon the devil, raise chickens, tear out the turf grass and replace it with native grass or clovers, build a sitting area, make a small archery range, make a spot to sit and paint, put in a koi pond, the possibilities are literally endless for what a back yard can be used for, there is so much more to a yard than just grass and children’s playsets
