Yes, but like I don't desire a flower but I can appreciate it's beauty
Speak to someone who has operated a steam locomotive or older diesel. They do hunger, they do desire. They will warn you of an outburst and they will complain. They get cold and hot and will tell you if you listen. They have favorites, there are people who they hate.
New locomotives have been tamed, their personalities restrained and hidden by layers of computers. Occasionally they will break free, usually to have a fit. These personalities aren't something you will experience in a simulation, but they are real. Amtrak is lying because he doesn't want you all to notice that he parades the corpses of f40s that did have these personalities around as husks of themselves. Like zombies.
