I love Mackinac but I highly recommend NOT going in October, it was cold and everything was closed
I whole-heartedly disagree. If you want to take in the beauty of the island without having to deal with the crowds, go on a weekday during October. There's no one there to interrupt the peace and quiet.
If you prefer noise and crowds though, then by all means go in the summer.
Hmm, you do make a good point, the island was quite calm and nice when I went there
