Disabled people need to be listened to when we design our cities. If we want Walkable cities they also need to be accessible cities and we need to recognize that banning cars is not the solution to all urban problems as car trips will always be necessary in some amount
walked down one of the main streets in the town i grew up in with my bag and realised just how impossible it'd be to roll down in a wheelchair. city's solution to this main street full of shops and with high pedestrian traffic has not been wider sidewalks or even repaired sidewalks. it has been - reducing the speed limit to 30km/h.
Reducing car speeds is a good step to protect pedestrians but a state of good repair on sidewalks and wide sidewalks are both essential to making an urban environment really livable
