One thing people forget about is that if we want a good national rail network, we need good regional and inner city rail networks. A train to Chicago is great, but you know what makes it much better, a train to the train station, if people can access rail via public transit, they are more likely to take it as their main mode of transit. If people already have to drive to access the train station, they are more likely to just drive the whole way.
