Sure, you get federal and state $$$, but you’re run by your CEO and are to some extent profit-driven as a “for-profit” company.

I love trains and would love to see more train travel! But I think some re-organization may be necessary, especially perhaps re-designation of Amtrak as a non-profit, so that ticket prices etc., are not profit-driven, rather only “covering operating costs” - driven?

The government owns amtrak but operates it as a private company. So while Amtrak has a CEO and is private with a goal of profit to some extent, it is a government serviceas the government owns the majority of its shares, the CEO is chosen by Congress, it was created by a government act and it gets the majority of its funding from Congress
