You could have real freedom even in a snow storm if you lived in a dense Walkable neighborhood which would have corner stores and others amenities in walking distance
Yeah but a snowstorm drastically lowers walking distance, doesn't it? (Not saying cars are better by any means, but... there IS a reason they put out warnings not to limit your time outdoors during winter emergencies - hypothermia can set in in a matter of minutes!)
I do agree, and cars are good because of the heating, what I am saying is in a Walkable neighborhood you may be able to walk to your local corner store while wearing a winter coat to buy some sugar or bread for the day and walk home in a few minutes because it is a block or two away. But in a suburb you have to drive and driving in the snow is both dangerous and difficult.
