One thing I have noticed from reading neighborhood plans and attending community input meetings is that people are kinda weird about parking and bike lanes.
Like most people will support urbanist things like curb bump outs, new crosswalks, daylighting infrastructure, all of that is supported. But there are people who will go to a community input meeting to say that a development doesn’t have enough parking and because of that it shouldn’t be built when said development has more parking than units. People are obsessed with parking, that new housing project will apparently take away their ability to park their car, oh and if you even suggest removing parking for a bike lane, that really gets the old ladies angry because in their eyes biking is elitist and bike infrastructure is a waste of space and tax payer money. Lots of projects never make it out of the community input phase because people can’t agree on whether a bike lane should be included or not
