We recently have seen a massive federal investment in public infrastructure with billions going out to cities to help improve public transit, traffic calm streets, cap freeways and more! Let's look at what the funding is going towards

First up we have 159 million going to Philadelphia for the planning and construction of a 2 block freeway cap over the vine street expressway. This will reconnect Chinatown and create a new park in Center city
117 million has been granted to the Queensway project in Queens to build a linear park on abandoned right of way, it is frustrating that the MTA is not pursuing the Queenslink plan with a new subway line instead but it is better to have a park than an empty decaying space
41.9 million has been granted to Columbus Ohio for the construction of a BRT on Broadstreet, the start of a larger planned BRT network for the city
Jacksonville has received 147 million to build a trail network across the city separate from streets to reconnect the city
450 million for freeway caps in Portland Oregon to reconnect the majority black Alvina Neighborhood
Allston in the Boston Area has received 330 million to move the I 90 viaduct to create new park space, reconnect the city to the riverfront, and build a new Commuter Rail station
The stitch project in Atlanta has received 157 million to reconnect sections of Midtown and downtown Atlanta with a freeway lid as seems to be a trend with this funding
LA metro is receiving $709.9 million for the San Fernando Valley Light Rail Line and D line Extension and about 200 million more in other transit and street projects
This was only a snippet of what has received the 3.3 billion dollars in finding realeased, but all in all the funding being released by the Federal Government has been a really good sign for the future of our cities as most of these are projects that will make the cities we live in significantly more livable and better to exist in. I hope that the reconnecting communities grants continue on because they are doing some serious good
