I wrote up a whole thing about the post that bothered me and why it bothered me but Tumblr deleted it so I’m going to try again.
The post that made me angry was this post
Like this bothered me so much because the 90s were an incredibly unsafe time to be Queer in the US and Britain
Both Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and the Defense of Marriage Act passed in the 90s
The AIDS crisis was at its peak in the early 90s as tens of thousands of gay and trans people died
Fucking Gay Bashings were still a common occurrence
People were dying and you say they lived because people weren’t censored. Tell me what is the censorship you’re talking about? Is it Trans people demanding respect, because the lack of respect they were given in the 90s lead to them dying. People didn’t feel safe to come out as trans in the 90s because it was a death sentence.
And people didn’t talk about everything openly back then, nobody talked about the gay men and trans women who were killed in rural America for the crime of being gay, nobody talked about the virus that was killing us in the tens of thousands except to mock us. The 90s were a terrible time to be queer
