Amtrak doesn't even own the train tracks outside the Northeastern US, the situation is dire here
The Deutsche Bahn (the trainsystem in Germany) doesnt even own any rail tracks. They are all under national ownership. They just have a right to use their trains on these railways.
They also make more money with their side company, which does shipment via trucks in the EU
The tracks in America aren’t even nationalized, they are owned by 6 private companies that have virtually total freedom to do what ever they want, which currently is running incredibly long slow trains that back up the tracks
