I think all busses and trains should be free and all parking should cost money and I’m not joking
As much as I would like to agree with this sentiment, I would literally never be able to go anywhere or do anything if I had to always pay to park
we should rebuild everything so that you don’t need a car to go anywhere or do anything
Trams, and ferries should also be free and bike parking should be free sometimes depending on how much space it takes up and where it's located, but car parking should always cost money
The average car owner already spends an average of two to five thousand dollars a year on gasoline and an additional eight hundred to a thousand on maintenance. And yet, they still own cars becauze, in a lot of places, public transportation is underfunded and useless. If they had to pay for parking, too, they would, even if they couldn't afford it, becauze there's no other real option. So, let's work on making public transportation a real, uzable option first, and, after that, we can talk about discouraging car use through extra fees. If we do this backwards, it just punishes the same people who are already being failed by the current public transportation system a little bit more.
I at least am discussing how things should be in a hypothetical future where we have affordable accessible transit in all parts of our cities, including those failed by the current system
