I think that the banana on the wall has caused irreparable harm to discussions of modern art and its merit as an art form because everytime someone brings up what they like about modern art, the anti-modern art crowd point to that fucking banana and use it to say that it is a low effort worthless style of art
Like I get it, it’s a statement about how art has become low effort and meaningless, but it has become a representation of every issue that people have with modern art. When you try to explain that Who’s Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue (shown below) is a piece with merit and immense amounts of effort put into it, the anti modern art people can just point to the banana and use that as proof that modern art is lazy and degenerate
