I think that the banana on the wall has caused irreparable harm to discussions of modern art and its merit as an art form because everytime someone brings up what they like about modern art, the anti-modern art crowd point to that fucking banana and use it to say that it is a low effort worthless style of art
But we're still talking about it.
So doesn't that prove that it's good art?
It is good art, I am not saying it's bad art because bad art doesn't exist. It's actually amazing art because if what it tells us about ourselves and how we discuss it. What I am saying is I dislike the role it plays in the discourse surrounding modern art. I think it is actually a good piece with meaning but I feel like the meaning is lost on people who view it as just another part of the modern art movement
And I know the point was to critique the art critics who try to find meaning in everything, but that point gives it meaning in my opinion, art made in protest of the art world is still very much art in my eyes. And all art has some form of meaning because we as creators imbue meaning into our works through the process of creation
My issue with the banana is actually that it is too good of an art piece and has caused so much discussion that it has become annoying and a bit of a punching bag
