Amtrak, why when I look up prices it cost one price coming and another price going back home?
Ticket prices are based on day of the week and how close to time of purchase they are bought. So if you want cheaper tickets avoid buying on Weekends or Fridays
Shouldn't it be the same price? The distance is the same. It's not like you're getting longer track for one of the trips.
It's to due with availability of tickets because almost every amtrak route is at capacity
What has that to do with distance?
It costs the same to operate the train between point A and B Monday the same as Friday.
More people want the train on Friday meaning there are fewer tickets available leading to higher prices
The cost to operate is the same.
Shouldn't your pricing be based on operating costs? Not how many people want on the train any given day.
Because as again. Operating costs don't change daily. Or even weekly. I'd be incredibly surprised if operating costs change even monthly.
Operating costs are not the only thing that drive the price of a ticket, there are other factors like demand because amtrak is at capacity
