Anyways, so you know how gay villages tend to be in walkable parts of cities? Like the Greenwich Village, West Hollywood, Boystown, The Highlands in Louisville, the Grove in St. Louis, The Gayborhood, ect... Well I have a theory on why that happened
Basically the cause in my mind is basically gay people cluster where rent is cheap due to the pressures of society and many queer people being artists, this combined with the white flight that was occuring in the 50s and 60s as the gay community formed lead to many of the most walkable neighborhoods becoming gay villages. They needed to be in urban cores to survive and have patrons for the arts as well as community due to the lack of familial structures for many queer people in that era so we concentrated in cheap urban neighborhoods like the Greenwich village
