Why does tumblr have such an anti-urbanist bend to it, everytime I bring up walkable cities or public transit or human centric design, somebody gets mad about it, it's crazy.

Like you want the environment to be treated better but you hate dense Walkable cities, it's complete madness

amtrak-official

You want disabled people to have easier lives and access to things but you don't want to make things easier for people to access without a car

I think that probably most of tumblr is actually normal about cities, it's just I am semi-prominent so all the weirdos wind up on my posts

The weirdos are scared by my stunning urban design autism

hey @amtrak-official, urban design student here passionate about making walkable cities that cater to all kinds of transport needs and preferences, because the beauty of urban design is that it’s about taking into consideration the thoughts of all community members, their needs, and how to meet them (including in ways they haven’t thought of yet or have brushed off). community engagement and win-win negotiation are super important in being able to do this, and actually as part of my (future) job it involves talking to the skeptics (and actually especially the skeptics) as we create solutions!!

I have to say I’ve learned everything I know from my wonderful uni professors but the bottom line is: yeah they have opinions. but most of those opinions are the close mindedness of not being able to envision what better looks like and therefore holding tightly onto what is familiar. as community engagement specialists and urban designers we aim to find the deeper need behind their conservativeness and meet them to the best of our ability. no joke, I’ve been training my whole life to do this. it’s gonna be okay, but we need more people thinking constructively in order for that to happen. love everything you do btw <3

Yeah, I think it is important to acknowledge that people even when they have opinions that are not what I agree with, or are harmful towards a greater goal, that they still have a right to have those opinions and it’s our job to try and show people how things could be better. I probably could have worded this post better but it was really just out of frustration
