Cars may be evil but Tracy Chapman's 1988 masterpiece, "Fast Car" is a very good song
We need a Lesbian to write a song called "fast train" so we can compete
"Cars may be evil" is what the gen z's are saying about one of the most liberating inventions in human history? Really? Is this cause they never learned to drive or?
Really, cars are liberating? A metal box that requires you to pay $12,000 annually to participate in society is liberating to you? There can and should be other ways to navigate society outside of the personal automobile. And that's not even getting into how car related accidents are the second largest cause of accidental death in the US, with almost 43,000 people dying due to car related accidents in 2022 alone.
I'm wondering where your annual cost comes from? You can get "state minimum" coverage in most states for about $100 a month, aka the cost of my monthly bus pass. And a car for like $3k.
Did I ever say there shouldn't be other ways to "navigate society outside the personal automobile"? Nah. My blog is "star trek bar-mitzvah" cause I had one. The runner up theme was going to be "New York Central", lol. You're preaching to the choir about trains 🚂🚅🥵
But two things can be true... Considering that before the 19th century, most people lived and died within a few miles of their home towns, the ability to drive anywhere, between any city at any time, with almost zero oversight and for any reason is pretty freeing. Plus once the box is open, the magic is out, and it turns out people like driving places sometimes
Cars can be a great tool, like anything else, and they have costs and benefits, like everything, and moralizing about cars seems as silly to me as my appreciating them seems to some.
I am not in the mood for arguing with people, but my source for the annual cost of a car being over 12k was this AAA article
And you might want think for a moment why the joke train blog that posts about the harms car dependence causes towards cities would in a joke post say that cars are evil
Especially when he has repeatedly said he doesn’t believe we should ban a car and that they still have their uses
My belief is that cars are a tool like anything else, but they aren’t liberating, which is a weird thing to say when complaining about someone moralizing something. By your logic that a tool is liberating then a Hammer is liberating.
