Okay so at the start of this month, I posted this image of San Francisco with the caption

“There be devils at work here”

From there the post became a debating point on whether American Urban Design is good or not on the basis of grids and downtowns being bad, the post has over 25,000 notes at the time of posting. I want to address a few things that are bothering me about the notes of that post

First of all are the people complaining about the lack of greenspace which is fair but this is not the whole city, the area shown in the picture is highlighted below over a larger map of San Francisco

As you can see there is a large amount of green space within and around the city, particularly Golden Gate Park which is larger than Central Park by almost 200 acres

Additionally while San Francisco does have issues with urban sprawl, it is also among the densest places in the US as the 24 densest city in the US and 2nd densest city with a population over 100k

And finally that is not a fucking photo of New York
