If you're really in Florence you might want to visit the Mercato Centrale, it's a food market that sells fresh food for Tuscan cuisine and has a food court on the 1st floor (2nd floor for Americans). The food there's great though it's been a few years since I went there myself.
If you want cool facts about Florence, I can hook you up. I had a lot of fun visiting back then, even though I got left at the top of the Duomo.
I was in Florence about a year ago, I went to the Academy and the Bardini Garden as well as just explored the city center
