We in the US have a tone of abandoned railroad tracks everywhere, right? Is there a reason we can just use and/or redo those tracks?
Because we keep having to knock down houses and are getting embroiled in law suits etc whenever we try and build a new one. The California high speed rail has been under construction forever.
Why can’t we just redo tracks that are already there? Tear them up and lay down new ones?
California High-speed Rail and other High-speed Rail projects would need to build new Rail to reach high speeds, but for conventional Rail, the tracks on most abandoned lines have been allowed to degrade so much that it would be just as costly to build new tracks as it would be to repair them in many cases
I find it funny that I can say anything on this website without using a source until it implies that rural people aren’t perfect and actually do in fact harm the environment significantly

Stumbled upon this post tumblr.com/amtrak-official/756979579402452992 while looking for a different one and had to do a double take. It is insane to see a blog with amtrak in its name make the same argument that is made against amtrak year after year, namely that "you are … paying a company that can't manage its own finances to stay afloat." Support or oppose tumblrs push to become user-funded for whatever reasons you like, but don't push such obviously misguided arguments.
Amtrak is a federal service, it should have no expectation of profitability, tumblr is a private corporation with no connection to the government. That right there is a massive difference
