amtrak official, wont dont you come through kentucky? id love to ride amtrak but id have to go to a place with amtrak first=o[

I mean we do go through KY with 4 stops on the 3 weekly trips of the Cardinal between Chicago and DC via Cincinnati, I love Kentucky, it’s Kentucky that hates me(KYDOT didn’t request a single study into passenger rail infrastructure)

thrownnightmares asked:

How do you decide what towns or areas to put stops in? Especially if developing new rail lines or extending existing ones? Is it by something like population, demand, or where existing tracks are or are there other factors?

The population centers along existing railroads and where stations historically existed are the 2 biggest factors in deciding station locations, but we also factor on land availability and the size of a city, additionally we always can do infill stations if we miss somewhere important like the possible new station in Juliet on the Lincoln Service or possible Oxford station on the Cardinal

asabmdm asked:

heya Amtrak,

I want to visit a friend in Seattle, possibly via train, but I live in Virginia so it would be like a 3-day voyage or something. Is there a route you'd suggest? do I take two weeks off work? or do I just fly like a jackass?

I am going to assume you’re in DC for convenience. Take the Cardinal to Chicago and then take the Empire Builder to Seattle. That should be about 3 days
