If you ever want to see something a little bit interesting but sad, go on google maps and zoom in on the Northside of Chicago and notice how dense the city is, then go on the Southside and look at how many empty lots there are, this is a physical reminder of the decline of the South side as people left it for other cities due to decades of racist disinvestment

(it used to be a lot worse but it’s still. pretty bad. the chocolate factory on the river is nice tho)
I still like to think of it as a success story for the improvement of industrial rivers since the 60s, The Hudson has probably improved more, but The Chicago River has stolen my heart with the river walk in the loop
