opinions on chicago's metra? i love it personally
Amazing, but needs to be expanded and have much better time tables
Pennsylvania, Michigan and Massachusetts have all announced they are doing work on passenger rail even before the FRA announcers funding later this year
Firstly the Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority has begun looking into where to put a station in Reading for a Reading To Philadelphia rail line and creating a TOD policy for the area around the station while they wait for the FRA funds to arrive for the restoration of the line
Massachusetts has announced funding to raise the track speeds and add new sidings on the rail line between Worcester and Springfield up to speeds of 80 mph cutting trip times down to 2 hours
The Michigan state Government has allotted 20 million to high speed rail to be given out in Grants to local governments, additionally the state legislature has mentioned it could be used to improve existing passenger rail lines by increasing frequency or renovating the Ann Arbor station
Oh fuck I missed this for a minutes but, Metra is restoring service to Rockford by 2027. The line will have 2 daily trains running at 79 mph with stops in Belvedere, Huntly, and Elgin. The trip time will be 95 minutes between Rockford and Chicago

1) thank you, I love my trains, they are pretty cool. Trains are cool.
2) I like Metra, it like the L needs an outer ring but It is a good system and really cool

I just got off an Amtrak from Chicago it was awesome 👍 Can I get back on and just keep riding actually? I am having the post-train sads
(it was Empire Builder if you're wondering)
Your in Chicago, try riding the L or Metra for a bit. They are some underrated and underfunded trains just like me
djangodurango asked:
I don't live in Chicago, but I just got back from there and their public transit makes me incredibly jealous. San Antonio ain't winnin' no polls about walk-ability, I'll tell you that. Metra absolutely fucks, especially compared to no trains at all.
Also, last time I visited, I tweeted a compliment to Metra on their fucktitude and they replied to thank me. Polite!
Literally the one thing people here seem to agree on is that Metra is fucking sick and fucks severely

In regards to Chicago Anon, same! Metra might not be the best in the world but for a sprawling American metro area it's pretty good. Also it's nice that I can actually afford rent and not starve to death :D (please dont gentrify my neighborhood :3)
Don’t worry the no matter how extended the suburbs get METRA will still arrive
Anonymous asked:
The chicago metra is really cool man, I live in the far out suburbs but there’s a train station within walking distance that can get me to downtown chicago in no time. The Metra also goes all the way out to Aurora, which is a whole other large town. No I’m not biased
Metra is such a cool thing and we need to do it in every city.
