hi amtrak. i want to make a trip from dallas texas to raleigh north carolina . with amrtak. whats the best way for me to to do that. thank you

It’s a long trip unfortunately, you need to take the Texas Eagle to Chicago where you will then Transfer to the CapitolLimited, once you arrive in DC you need to transfer to the Silver Star, and ride that down to Raleigh

I need you to know that your blog is making an impact on my subconscious. Last night I dreamed I needed to get from Miami to Boston without a car and the people I was with started freaking out about hitchhiking being our only option and I said, “It’ll be okay. We can take Amtrak. RIP the Floridian but I know there are other trains from Florida.” And it was okay. Because of Amtrak.

RIP amtrak Floridian, there was nobody quite like her. I must correct your dream south though, You would want to take the Silver Service to Miami from Boston, not the Floridian. Glad to see I’m making an impact somewhere though

i live in florida and the $39 silver meteor (or silver star depending on the hour) from orlando to miami has saved my ass a bunch of times when i can't drive down myself for some reason and it is honestly one of my favorite forms of transport. do you know of any routes out of miami (that are long- like 20+ hours long) that cost less than like $150? cuz i want to do a long train ride before classes start in august but i don't want to spend like $800 round trip just on train tickets.

Okay so not sure on the times but both Savannah and Charleston are around 90 dollars from Miami in early July right now, and Raleigh is about 100 dollars. Anything further gets over 159

Miami-Fort Myers-Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater-Gainesville-Tallahassee. Also the suspended service from Jacksonville to New Orleans needs to be rebuilt so that this route can join up to it.

(The new Howard Frankland bridge across Tampa Bay, currently under construction, is designed to accommodate rail traffic.)

Okay, maybe this isn't long distance, but it's got a number of important Florida cities that are not currently properly served by Amtrak.

We would need a rail friendly administration in Florida first which given the recent administration’s have been run by literal demons (Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis) I don’t see that happening. But we could improve service on the silver star and meator. Additionally it is still the plan to finish the sunset limited one day.

Next time you're on a train, write it down, Murder on the Orient Express is set on a train and it is considered one of the best works of English literature ever written and helped make Christie the second best selling author of all time. Just imagine your ride on the California Zephyr could be the next Murder on the Orient Express <3

Personally, I think "Murder on the Empire Builder" would be a better title than "Murder on the California Zephyr".

(As a bonus, the Empire Builder goes to Chicago, so at the end of your journey, you can go see Sue the T. Rex.)

What other Amtrak route names could make for good titles?

amtrak-official

Zephyr also goes to Chicago. In regards to the best names for book titles the Sunset Limited, Blue Water, Silver Metaor and the Silver Star all have a lot of potential.

So I was going to make a poll on the missing routes in our system but like the only real long distance route that is the missing Chicago-Indianapolis-Louisville-Nashville -Chattanooga-Atlanta Corridor which is honestly the only really missing long distance route in the system. I mean Pioneer and Northcoast Hiawatha would be nice but the biggest missing route is still that South east corridor

Anyways here is a map which shows how well this would fit in with the existing routes in the amtrak system.
