how would you rate northeast missouri (kansas city region) in terms of public transit on a scale of 1-10
ive lived here my whole life and ive seen plenty of amtrak stations around but i dont really know how well we’re actually doing in the trains department and im genuinely curious
I’m sorry, I personally have never been to KC, I hear the streetcar there is good though. If anyone from there is able to share, I would love to hear it. In the amtrak department you do have it decent with one of the higher speed lines, the Lincoln Service being connected to KC, as well as the Missouri River Runner and Southwest Chief.

Remember, Zephyr is Chicago to Emeryville.
I know that, I just forget that the Southwest Chief exists and assume that the only great Plains train is the Zephyr
I know NBC is just a bunch of Liberals but Good news for American Rail, The train ridership has never been higher on State Supported routes!!
Great news @quantum-chaos-theory it's being extended north to Wichita and Newton to meet with the Zephyr
Imagine if while you were on a train, a little old lady jumped up and began doing pirouettes while eating the chairs and singing the sound track of the Sound of Music in the Austrian Dialect of German. And then she stole your pocket watch, broke it with a hammer, stuck it in a bucket of paint and threw it out the window straight at a saguaro cactus, knocking the tops off of 7 cacti in the process. Wouldn't that be fucked up
This is suspiciously specific.
Please, official Amtrak, please add context!
All the context you need is there. I guess I never specified but the train is full of people and it’s the Southwest Chief

What about Philly to Kansas City?
This one is complicated. I think the fastest way would be to take the Pennsylvanian to Pittsburgh then transfer to the Lakeshore Limited and head to Chicago, once in Chicago you can transfer to the Southwest Chief
Hey sluts, I have a deal for you, you tell me what you want and I find you the best route for it. Be it a day trip, a vacation or visiting family. I'll take a budget and find the route that fits it. Exact locations aren't even needed, I'm just fucking bored. Just give me a budget, and your city and I'll find you a vacation
Okay @minerscanarybyvanessacarlton, Downeastern to Cresent the is the east Coast done, next take the Sunset Limited and connect to the Coast Starlight, from there transfer to the Empire Builder, once in Chicago take the California Zephyr to Emeryville, transfer to the San Jaoquins, then take the through way bus from Bakersfield to LA, once in LA go on the Southwest Chief back to Chicago, when in Chicago take either the Cardinal or Lakeshore Limited to New York, once in New York take the Empire Service to Buffalo. There, across the Country in 10 trains.
@honeyblooma Amtrak Cascades, it's 60$ if you schedule for tomorrow and 40 if you schedule in advance
@pathologicallypedantic, I am still respecting the budget and sending you to Williamsburg on the Northeast Regional, it was a really cool vacation when I went there and is home to not just historical sites like Jamestown, Yorktown, and Colonial Williamsburg, but also some honestly really nice beaches
@ollie-garden take the Coast Starlight to Emeryville, from Emeryville take a throughway bus to Oakland, once in Oakland take the BART to San Francisco
@mathclasswarfare Yes, but you get more time on a train with this route
@cjedi Take the Southwest Chief to Chicago and then take the Lakeshore Limited to New York this is about 220 when booking in advance

hi! i was wondering if you had any information on trains anywhere in new mexico? trying to get across the country and right now it seems like my only option is greyhounds
The Southwest Chief runs through Albuquerque as well as Gallup, Winslow, Las Vegas, NM, and Raton and the Sunset Limited passes throught the southern part of the state at Lordsburg and Deming and thats about it right now
Surprise Bonus Poll #2
Long Distance Routes
Cresent (NYC-Atlanta-New Orleans)
City of New Orleans (Chicago-Memphis-New Orleans)
Cardinal (DC-Cincinatti-Chicago)
California Zephyr (Chicago-Denver-SLC-Emeryville
Empire Builder (Chicago-Twin Cities-Seattle/Portland)
Silver Star/Meteor (NYC-Charleston/Rahleigh-Miami)
Southwest Chief (LA-Chicago)
Sunset Limited (LA-El Paso-New Orleans
Coast Starlight (LA-Emeryville-Seattle)
Lake Shore Limited (Chicago-Cleveland-NYC/Boston)
See ResultsSo I was going to make a poll on the missing routes in our system but like the only real long distance route that is the missing Chicago-Indianapolis-Louisville-Nashville -Chattanooga-Atlanta Corridor which is honestly the only really missing long distance route in the system. I mean Pioneer and Northcoast Hiawatha would be nice but the biggest missing route is still that South east corridor
Anyways here is a map which shows how well this would fit in with the existing routes in the amtrak system.
Routes shown are as follows: Acela, Cardinal, City of New Orleans, 3C+D, Northeast Regional, Silver Star / Meateor.
Hypothetical routes that would be supported by this corridor are as follows, Louisville-Cincinnati, Louisville-Lexington-Knoxville-Chattanooga, Nashville-Huntsville-Birmingham -Montgomery, and Atlanta-Montgomery-Mobile
fuck you "the only real long distance route that is the missing" where are all the north-south lines west of chicago i dont want to go halfway across the country just to go to the state neighboring me to the north :(
i love you amtrak but come on 😔
Okay maybe a Tuscon-Pheonix-SLC-Boise line and an El Paso-Albuqurque-Denver-Cheyenne-Billings line would be good for the west
Okay yeah amtrak isn't the best west of the Mississippi but if that el paso line I just made up got made it would certainly make it far more direct. That is an example of why the connects us plan is flawed, it relies too much on state supported routes, when Long distance routes in the west are severely needed, the current proposals for restoration of the Northcoast Hiawatha and Pioneer are good but the South west seriously needs more routes and connections
I know this is just the Amtrack tumblr account but please just fucking give us service again in Phoenix. There isn't even a fucking passenger train station here, the 5th largest metro area in the nation. The nearest station is all the way in Maricopa, a town to the south of Phoenix only accessible by Highway. It is a 30 - 60 mile drive depending on the area of the Valley you live in.
I would absolutely love to ride long distance rail, but riding a passenger train isn't even a feasible option in the Phoenix Area.
It is actually coming back as a new stop on the southwest chief, if we get the money of course<3
